The precious wood EBENHOLZ has been used for furniture making since the 16th century. It was considered proof of wealth to surround oneself with furniture made from the black heartwood of the deciduous tree native to Ceylon. This stock has long since been exhausted, so nowadays other regions are used for extraction. One cubic meter of Makassar ebony, for example, costs around ¤20,000. A shepherd's cross is inlaid into the handle from seven pins. Such a folding knife is happily referred to as the "smallest chapel in the world". Jaws made of matt stainless steel house the black wood, like a muff.
DAMASTSTAHL is a worthy combination here in the stainless version. The name is derived from the Syrian capital. But it was not invented there, even if it was actively traded.
It all began in 1828, when Monsieur Casimir Antoine Moulet founded a forge in Laguiole. Between 1850/1860, roughly the shape we know today, whose blade is known in France as the "Yatagan", was created. After a Seljuk commandeur, whose name also stands for a city in Turkey.
The bee and quillons are forged in one piece, the guilloches are chiseled by hand with a file and burin in the goldsmith's manner. All of this stands for LUXE, or luxury. FORGE DE LAGUIOLE now offers this series under the name COLLECTION.
Natural materials vary in their appearance. Color and grain, but also the bee and the feather are different.
