Count Adolf II von Berg had the hilltop castle, which was completed in 1133, built on the foundations of a fortification from the 10th century. Today, it is one of the largest castles in western Germany and is inextricably linked to the Duchy of Berg and the Counts of Berg (1068 to 1225). Even today, Schloss Burg reflects the enormous prosperity of the counts and their far-reaching influence in the Rhenish-Westphalian region. Count Engelbert II von Berg was also Archbishop of Cologne. As Boker's company history can be traced back to 1674 with the first registration of the tree as a trade mark for hand tools, we also have strong historical links with the Bergisches Land region and are in regular contact with the historians at Schloss Burg. Large parts of the castle are currently being renovated true to the original, including the replacement of ancient, solid oak planks. This gave us the idea of preserving this historical material for posterity and expertly processing it into handle scales in our manufactory.Based on this, we have designed the Boker Schloss Burg series, a knife line steeped in history with seven traditional knife models. In addition to the scales made of historic oak wood from Schloss Burg, the models are characterised by the use of brass plates and the use of O1 carbon steel as the blade material. To emphasise the authenticity of the knives, the blades are given a special acid wash finish, which also protects them from harmful environmental influences. All models are made by hand in the Boker Solingen manufactory, are strictly limited to 1133 pieces worldwide and come with the newly reissued historic Boker tree mark emblem. The characteristic teardrop shape of the Barlow can be traced back to the English pocket knives of the 17th century, making it certainly one of the oldest models of all. The name of this classic knife probably goes back to an enterprising knife manufacturer of the same name from Sheffield, who began exporting the robust knives to North America around 1800. There they immediately enjoyed great popularity and so the first Barlow models also appeared in the history of the Boker manufactory at the end of the 19th century. The newly interpreted Boker Barlow Prime is equipped with shorter bolsters. The blade has a modern, elongated ricasso and the slipjoint's operating safety is increased by a 90 degree detent when opening and closing. With individual serial number. Many users appreciate not only the traditional aspect that carbon steel offers, but also the combination of edge retention and easy resharpening that stainless steels never achieve. This property and the very fine microstructure still make carbon steel a real alternative to chrome steels for many cutting tools.Questions?Susann Frécôtkontakt@scharferladen.de
