Magnetic knife holder

A magnetic strip is a space-saving, decorative, clearly organised storage option for chef's knives and other small kitchen utensils made of metal. The alternative is a knife block or a drawer insert. If you are interested, read more in the corresponding section.
The narrow strip is made of metal, either stainless steel or aluminium, wood is also possible, sometimes even plastic with strong point or strip-shaped magnets. Some manufacturers offer magnetic strips in the form of stand-up boards with a table base. The advantage of this is that you can move them to a different place at any time, like a music stand.
Wall-mounted strips have several positive aspects: They take up little space, you have the option to expand the amount of ledges as you wish and have space, you can display your cutting tools very impressively while doing so and you always have them in view while cooking.
A metal sommelier cutlery set, a pocket knife for a picnic, pretty barbecue skewers with a brass head, an iron pan for just one fried egg - the only limit to your imagination is the lack of gravity.
The disadvantage is that the rails should be drilled into the wall for mounting, as they add up to quite a bit of weight. Ceramic knives do not fit on them due to the lack of magnetism. If a blade or axe falls, the tool can be damaged, especially an animal or person standing in the path of the fall. When using wooden knife strips in conjunction with carbon blades, you must always make sure that the blades are really dry, otherwise dark spots may appear on the wood. Scratches on the blades when lifting them from a metal magnetic strip can supposedly be avoided by placing a thin chamois leather underneath, which does not reduce the ‘adhesion’, but is held in place by the weight of the tools on it.
The fact is, with a magnetic strip you save yourself any kitchen wall decoration, because what is more beautiful than great chef's knives?
